Hungarian Grand Prix: Lewis Hamilton secures victory after late overtake

Lewis Hamilton passed Max Verstappen with three laps remaining to win the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Hamilton was within one second of Verstappen when he was called in for a second pit stop - Mercedes hoping that a switch to fresh tyres would provide the British star with a chance to usurp Verstappen. The strategy move by Formula One's all-conquering team proved inspired.

Hamilton left the pit lane 21 seconds behind Verstappen with 21 laps remaining, the Briton lighting up the time sheets before catching the back of Verstappen's Red Bull. The world champion then made the move for victory stick around the outside of Verstappen on lap 67. Re-live the action below:

Hello and welcome to our live coverage of today's Hungarian Grand Prix!

Callum Rice-Coates will be in the driving seat from 1pm, so make sure to tune in for what promises to be another thrilling race.
After the drama of last weekend's German Grand Prix, the focus turns to Hungary, where Max Verstappen will start in pole position for the first time in his career.

Valtteri Bottas is just behind the young Belgian, while Lewis Hamilton, who is the current championship leader, begins the race in third.

Let's hope for another exciting, eventful race at the Hungoraring.

Here's the best of the action from yesterday's qualifying:
It is easy to forget that Max Verstappen is only 21-years-old. He is now in his fifth season as an F1 driver, competing at the very top and often making it look unerringly easy. His remarkable talent was in evidence in last week's win at Hockenheim, and another victory today will put Hamilton and Bottas on their toes.

“The car has felt good all weekend and it was flying in qualifying,” Verstappen said after capturing pole yesterday. “I am very happy about today. There is still a race to do and that is the most important thing.”

Just under 20 minutes until the race begins! Here's today's starting grid:
Lewis Hamilton has an excellent record in Hungary, so he'll be hopeful of another successful afternoon. He's won at the Hungoraring six times, but he's got a lot of work to do today.

Overtaking is not easy here, and Verstappen has a major advantage having secured pole.
It's a hot one in Hungary. The good news - or perhaps not after last week - is that rain appears to be unlikely.
The cars are in place. The drivers are ready. We're almost ready for the formation lap...
The formation lap begins!
And the race is underway!
Lap 1: What a start for Hamilton!  He goes past Bottas on the outside. Verstappen gets away, though, and leads after the first lap. It's a nightmare start for Bottas, who watches Leclerc overtake too.
Lap 2: Bottas has damaged his front wing after a collision with Leclerc and has to take an early pit stop. Verstappen has already established a lead of over two seconds, so it's looking good for the youngster.
Lap 4: Verstappen's lead over Hamilton is at 2.280 seconds, while Leclerc is 5.440 seconds back in third. Bottas, after his dismal start, is now in fifth.
Lap 6: Bottas is in the pits again. He's changed to hard compound tyres but loses a lot of ground. Pierre Gasly also had a poor start, dropping three spots.
Lap 7: It's looking increasingly like a two-horse race. Verstappen and Hamilton are way ahead in front, with Leclerc over eight seconds behind the leader.
Lap 9: Leclerc is struggling to keep pace with the front runners. He is keeping himself ahead of Vettel, Sainz, Norris, Raikkonen and Gasly, though. Hamilton, meanwhile, is asking his team how he can close the gap on Verstappen.
Lap 11: Ricciardo has done well to move up to 16th, overtaking Lance Stroll. Meanwhile, Hamilton has cut the gap on Verstappen to 2.005.

Lap 12: The front two continue to streak away from the rest, and there's another big gap between Vettel in fourth and Sainz in fifth. Verstappen, so far, has been unflappable.
Lap 14: Hamilton, having gained on Verstappen slightly, has now lost more ground on the leader. He now trails the Belgian by 2.306 seconds.
