Hundreds turn out for candlelight vigil in memory of Ruth Maguire, Shane McAnallen and Martin Patterson in Carlingford, Co Louth

Hundreds turned out to remember the three people who lost their lives in Carlingford, Co Louth on St Patrick's weekend.

A candlelight vigil was held in the town in memory of Ruth Maguire, Shane McAnallen and Martin Patterson, Belfast Live reports.

The body of Ruth Maguire, originally from North Belfast was found in the water after she had gone missing from a hen party in the town in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Friends have described her death as a tragic accident.

Meanwhile, friends Shane McAnallen from Castlewellan, and Martin Patterson, from the Bryansford area outside Newcastle lost their lives following a single vehicle crash on the R173 road in Carlingford, in the early hours of Bank Holiday Monday.

Large crowds gathered in the town on Sunday evening for the event which was organised by Cooley Community Alert Facebook group to remember the three young people and offer some comfort to their bereaved families.

The Carlingford choir provided music and representatives from the victims families, An Garda Síochána, local clergy, local councillors, Greenore Coast Guard, Kilkeel RNLI, HM Coastguard, Dundalk Sub Aqua, Ambulance Service and Red Cross all turned out to pay their respects.

A spokesperson for Cooley Community alert posted on Facebook: "On behalf of the community alert can I thank everyone who came tonight and helped in any way. The families would like to pass on their thank you to you all and were overwhelmed by the numbers who came and showed the grief we as a community share with them."

Hundreds turned out on Saturday in North Belfast as mum-of-three Ruth Maguire was laid to rest, leaving behind her partner partner Jim who she had been due to marry later this year as well as three young children, Tyler, Lydia and Oliver.

Meanwhile, pals Shane McAnallen and Martin Patterson were also laid to rest on Saturday in St Patrick's cemetery in Bryansford, Co Down.
