HUNDREDS of Hunter locals joined forces to support Dementia Australia's rescheduled Memory Walk and jog on Sunday at Lake Macquarie after being postponed in March.

Organisers said 900 people helped raise more than $60,000. They set out from Speers Point Park to walk, jog or take a run along the esplanade on a family-friendly course of 2km to 7.5km.

Dementia Australia CEO Maree McCabe extended her thanks to everyone who participated, helped raised funds, spread the word, or gave a donation. "We are delighted with this fantastic turnout and the enormous levels of community spirit and support demonstrated," Ms McCabe said. "Many people impacted by dementia find these events a great way to connect with other local people in similar circumstances."

There are an estimated 157,000 people living with dementia in NSW, a figure projected to increase to about 345,000 by 2058. Visit memorywalk.com.au to support the cause.

FINISH LINE: the 900 people who participated, and the volunteers who helped make it happen, have raised $60,000 for Dementia Australia.
