Hundreds queue to meet Ghostbusters in Nottingham city centre

Nottingham families certainly proved they 'ain't afraid of no ghost' by turning out in their droves to meet New York's finest fictional paranormal crime fighters.

Hundreds of little ones and grown-ups, kitted out in their best fancy dress, queued from 10am this morning (Thursday, October 31) to meet the Ghostbusters team and pose in front of their famous wheels, Ecto 1.

The fan favourites were handing out maps and treat bags for the Halloween trail  organised by It’s In Nottingham, which is part of Nottingham's Business Improvement District (BID).

Families, lined from Trinity Square to Bistrot Pierre, in Milton Street, snapping up the stash of freebies in less than 45 minutes.

Mum-of-two Laura Burton, 39, of The Meadows, was waiting in the queue with a very mini Ghostbuster (Dottie, six months) and devil (Rufus, three) in tow.

She said: "We got on a tram at The Meadows and it was full of with families, loads in fancy dress. They all got off in town and came here.

"Getting dressed up is the best bit about Halloween."

The trail map takes families on a treasure hunt around Nottingham city centre with clues used to hunt out the hidden ghostly characters, collect goodies, brew up a potion and take part in craft activities and games within the 75 shops, bars and restaurants taking part.

Mum Tina Perkins, took son (and number one Ghostbusters fan) Coby Tucker, three, to meet his hereos.

Travelling from Sherwood the 30-year-old had crafted a Ghostbusters proton pack from a vaccum cleaner.

She said: "We heard about it on Facebook and got so excited we put together this outfit. He said straight away he wanted to be a Ghostbuster.

"This is a dream come true for Coby."

Activities organised for the day also include brewing a potion at Malt Cross, in St James’s Street, face painting at Paperchase, in Middle Pavement and Nottingham Coffee Club at intu Victoria Centre, learning about spiders at St James Hotel, visiting the balloon artists at Frankie & Benny’s, in Upper Parliament Street, and MOD Pizza, in Long Row, making a wizard’s or witch’s hat with Professor Vanessa at Faradays Nottingham, in Victoria Street, or attempting to make their way through the giant spider web at Das Kino, in Fletcher Gate.

Mum Rosie Coderini, 29, had made matching costumes for her and her son Frederico, four.

Dressed as Day of the Dead, the pair, from Sherwood, had been inspired by Disney's Coco.

She said: "With a four-year-old it's well located being in town. Frederico loves maps and following trails so he's very excited to do it."

Jeff Allen, chairman of Nottingham Business Improvement District (BID), added: "Last year over 400 families followed the Halloween Trail, discovering lots of different shops, restaurants, coffee shops and leisure venues in the process, making it a real hit with our members.

“The people of Nottingham and visitors to the city really enjoyed it too and Ecto 1 was very popular which is why we have brought it back this year. Being half term, it is a perfectly timed free initiative, particularly for families.”
