Hundreds queue for 'hours' at covid booster walk-in jab clinic

Hundreds of people queued for 'hours' at one of Liverpool's walk-in booster clinics.

After Boris Johnson's Omicron emergency warning on Sunday, December 12 hundreds of people flocked to Liverpool CCG's walk-in booster clinics for covid jabs.

James Barber tweeted a picture showing dozens of people queuing along a field at the Kensington Portakabin walk-in vaccine centre.

He said: "This is the queue for a walk-in booster in Kensington, Liverpool at the moment. Great to see, despite the cold."

Three Liverpool CCG ran walk-in booster clinics were open today including Kensington, Bousfield Surgery and Holy Rosary Parish Hall.

But due to 'extremely long queues' the CCG were forced to turn people away from Westminster Road's Bousfield Surgery at around 1pm.

The Liverpool CCG website showed the original listing crossed out with the message, 'Due to extremely long queues this pop-up is no longer accepting walk-ins' next to it.

People were also reporting being turned away from the Kensington Portakabin at Jubilee Sports Bank on Tuesday (December 14) evening for the same reason.

One person said they had been in the queue since 2.45pm and were still waiting to be seen at around 5pm.

Liverpool CCG are offering drop-in clinics for Pfizer only up until December 21, 2021 with one clinic reopening for boosters on December 29, January 8 and January 9.

The Liverpool CCG website said: "All vaccination sites have access to a single patient database, so you don’t need to go to the same place for both your doses; you can visit a different site for your second dose if that works better for you.

"You can have a booked appointment for one dose, but use a drop-in for your other dose if you prefer."

Data covering testing up to December 11, 2021 show the total number of confirmed cases in Liverpool for the last seven days is 2340, an increase of 252 cases on the previous week.

The latest weekly rate of Covid-19 in Liverpool is 469.8 per 100,000 population.

People are also able to book appointments for their booster jabs on the NHS Coronavirus vaccination website.
