Hundreds of Salford fans begin queuing at 5am to snap up Grand Final tickets

Hundreds of Salford Red Devils fans queued from 5.30am today to for the biggest game in the rugby league club's history.

The Reds beat Wigan Warriors at the DW Stadium on Friday night

The eagerly-awaited clash with St Helens will be played at Old Trafford next Saturday, October 12.

Tickets went on sale at Salford's AJ Bell Stadium today.

By the time the ticket office opened at 8am, more than 600 fans were waiting in line.

Huge queues snaked around the stadium and into the car park.

Even a fast-food van was called in to sell hot drinks and breakfast sandwiches.

Salford have been allocated 8,500 tickets for the Betfred Super League Grand Final, with the clash easily expected to be a sell-out.

Tickets are also available to buy online or over the phone.

Fans Ged and Mark Williams, and Nikki Keenan and Maia Hawkins, were among the first in the queue.

All four arrived at around 5.30am.

One fan in the queue said: "Excitement is really building now and there was a party atmosphere down here.

Everyone is really excited and the queues were huge. "It's the biggest game in the club's history and no one wants to miss out."

Ian Watson's men defied the pundits to put in a stellar performance at Wigan, running out 28-4 winners.
