Hundreds of residents to be removed from their tower block homes

Hundreds of tenants from three Merseyside tower blocks are to be removed from their homes - and residents say they have been told the owners "can't accommodate everyone".

One Vision, who took ownership of all of Sefton’s tower blocks in 2005, say they are in the process of rehousing tenants from Willow, Chapel and Dean House (in Litherland and Waterloo respectively).

The housing group says part of its ongoing assessment strategy showed works were required to the blocks, which could not be safely completed with tenants in situ.

In June 2018, those living in OVH-owned Irlam House in Bootle were 'decanted' from their homes, after owners decided it was no longer 'viable' for them to live there.

The works needed at Willow, Chapel and Dean House it said, 'raises questions over future viability' of those tower blocks.

One woman living in Willow House, who wishes to remain nameless, said: "We have just received notice that our flats are being pulled down and we'll have to be rehoused.

"Also the blocks in Waterloo are going, but OVH said they don't have enough place to re-accommodate everyone."

A spokeswoman for One Vision Housing said: "Regrettably, we have had to take the decision to rehouse those tenants in the three blocks.

"Additionally, we have been working with Sefton MBC over recent weeks, which has resulted in residents being awarded priority decant status, which will assist in the rehousing process. Residents will also be entitled to financial support amounting to circa £7000.

"Priority decant status will give tenants the highest priority on the housing waiting list and a choice of where they would like to be rehoused.

"We are currently visiting all tenants in the blocks to explain the situation and provide support and assistance. We anticipate that the rehousing process, which will commence immediately, will take a period of time to complete."
