Hundreds of new Bristol Covid cases confirmed - latest breakdown

There have been more than 500 new cases of Covid-19 confirmed across the Bristol region in the latest daily figures.

A total of 535 new cases of the virus were confirmed across all four local authorities that make up the Bristol region, 284 of which were reported in the city itself.

South Gloucestershire recorded 102 new infections, while 89 were recorded in Bath and North East Somerset and 60 in North Somerset.

The new cases in the Bristol region are part of a total of 26,144 recorded across the UK in the last 24 hours, bringing the nationwide total to 5,856,528.

Breakdown of positive test results

The number of positive test results in each area since the pandemic began is recorded below, with new positive test results in brackets.

Bristol - 46,421 (+284)

North Somerset - 14,611 (+60)

South Gloucestershire - 23,221 (+102)

Bath and North East Somerset - 8,872 (+89)

Covid death breakdown for each area

The number of deaths within 28 days of a positive test result in each area since the pandemic began is recorded below, with new deaths in brackets.

Bristol - 494 (-)

North Somerset - 319 (+1)

South Gloucestershire - 352 (-)

Bath and North East Somerset - 225 (-)

UK figures

There were 71 deaths recorded today, within 28 days of a positive test, across the UK.

More than 129,000 have lost their lives across the UK since the pandemic began, but the daily number of fatalities has not increased as dramatically as case numbers in recent weeks.

There were also 927 people admitted to hospital across the UK in the latest figures, with the total over the previous recorded six days now sitting at 492,022. There are 869 patients in mechanical ventilation beds.

The number of people who have received their first vaccine dose has nearly reached 47 million, with the current total number of vaccinations given sitting at 84,938,000.

There have also now been more than 38 million people who have received their second jab.
