'Hundreds' of kids celebrating GCSE's before teen stabbed in legs

Hundreds of kids celebrating the end of exams were dispersed from a woodland after a teenager was stabbed.

Merseyside Police were called to Cubbins Green just off Melloncroft Drive West in Caldy, Wirral, following reports of a stabbing just after 7.10pm. Once officers arrived they found the teenager had been stabbed in both his legs and he was taken to hospital.

He remains in a stable condition. The suspect left the area after the attack and nobody has been arrested.

Forensics officers searched the area and armed officers remained in the area as a precaution to "reassure the local community".

People at the scene reported how there were “hundreds” of children surrounding the picnic benches celebrating the end of their exams when the incident happened. The teenagers were dispersed from the area after the incident by police, which took a "fair while".

Huge groups of teenagers were seen gathered around West Kirby Train Station and the bus stops as police watched on. There was also a St Johns Ambulance just outside the train station.

In the cordon on Cubbins Green you could see lots of party debris including plastic bags and bottles. Surrounding the scene were pensioners and couples on evening walks who were wondering what had happened just hours before.

Chief Inspector Lisa Ledder said: “We are in the early stages of an investigation into a stabbing which has left a teenage boy injured. Armed police patrols remain in the area as a precaution, and I would appeal to anyone who was on Cubbins Green at around 7pm onwards and saw what happened to please contact us.

"We understand the area was busy with several groups of teenagers and I would ask those people to come forward if they have any information that could help us find those responsible. Similarly, if you were in the area and have dashcam or CCTV footage please check your systems just in case they may have captured something which may be vital to our investigations.”
