Hundreds of jobs to be lost as 35 Monsoon and Accessorize shops close

A total of 545 jobs are set to be lost as the parent company of shops Monsoon and Accessorize has entered administration.

The group said 35 stores are expected to close after the coronavirus pandemic scuppered its turnaround plan.

The brands have more than half a dozen stores in Wales, including in Cardiff, Swansea, Carmarthen, Llandundo, Aberystwyth and Cwmbran.

The news comes on the same day that fashion chain Quiz said it is placing the division that runs its 82 standalone stores into administration.

The group is hoping to restructure to offload loss-making outlets and slash its rent bill.

Quiz said 93 jobs are at risk by the decision, but it did not disclose how many stores would be likely to close.

Its concessions and international operations are unaffected by the move, they said.

The chains join a long list of companies struggling as the coronavirus pandemic leaves shops and restaurants closed in Wales.

After falling into administration, Cath Kidston announced in late April it would be closing all 60 of its UK locations - including its flagship store at St David's in Cardiff.

Oasis and Warehouse also entered administration in April and have since said they will not be reopening.
