Retail: Supermarket chain Morrisons is to create 1,000 jobs for homeless and vulnerable people during the next three years, reports the BBC. The scheme offers new staff three months' of training, in the classroom and on the job, leading to a Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) Level 1 qualification. Staff can then go on to gain a QCF Level 2 qualification, or take up an apprenticeship with the group, including roles as a butcher, baker or fishmonger.
Care: A new franchise which offers care to the elderly in their own homes will create 40 new jobs in Bolton, according to The Business Desk. Home Instead is currently recruiting for around 30 carers — the company hopes to fill the roles over the next six months.
Banking: Spanish bank Santander is to create 375 jobs in Leicestershire with plans to expand its call centre and the number of staff at its branches, reports the Leicester Mercury. Of the new roles, 300 will be based within the call centre, 25 posts will be created in a business banking division while 50 jobs would be recruited for the group's 50 branches in the county.
Online MBA: The London School of Business and Finance is using Facebook as a platform to deliver content for its new free MBA programme. Users will be able to access online video lectures and student discussions via the Facebook page — access to the content is free and users pay a fee to sit formal qualifying examinations, according to Marketing magazine.
Distribution: Department store Debenhams will create up to 800 new jobs with a new regional distribution centre in Yorkshire. Debenhams will start to fit out the centre immediately and it expects to occupy the unit from June 2011, reports The Press.
