Hundreds of homes were plunged into darkness after a sudden power cut last night.
People living in the WA11 postcode, which covers St Helens, have been without electricity since just after 10.30pm last night.
Scottish Power said it had no advance warning about the power cut and repairs are taking longer than expected due to the extent of the issue.

Engineers are currently in the area carrying out repair work.
The following postcodes are affected: WA117AE, WA117AF, WA117AG, WA117AH, WA117AQ, WA117EH, WA117EN, WA117EP, WA117EQ, WA117ER, WA117ES, WA117ET, WA117EU, WA117EX, WA117EY, WA117EZ, WA117HA, WA117HB, WA117HD, WA117HE, WA117HF, WA117HL, WA117PN, WA117PP, WA117PW
It is expected that the power will be restored by 12pm on Monday.
Scottish Power said: "There is a power cut in the WA11 postcode area of St Helens, affecting properties in Ennerdale Avenue, Mardale Avenue, and the surrounding area.
"We did not know in advance there would be a power cut, and became aware of this at 10:34 pm.
"Repairs are taking longer than expected because of the extent of the repair and our team are now working to get your power back on as quickly and as safely as possible by 12 Noon.
"We will update this message if this information changes. We apologise for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience."
