Hundreds of homes left without water and school forced to close due to burst water main in Stockport

Hundreds of homes have been left without water and a school has been forced to close in Stockport due to a burst water main.

Properties in four different postcodes were left without water - or water running at a very low pressure - in the early hours of the morning on Monday (December 2).

Stockport Grammar School has also been forced to close it's senior and junior school because they have no water on site.

The postcodes affected are SK1, SK2, SK3 and SK7.

Engineers remain on site carrying out repair work on the burst water main on the A6 Buxton Road and say they are 'making good progress'.

A spokesperson for United Utilities said: “A burst water main on Buxton Road in Stockport is currently affecting water supplies to some customers in the SK1, SK2, SK3 and SK7 postcode areas.

"Our water on wheels tankers have been deployed to the area to turn the taps back on while we carry out our repairs.

"Temporary traffic management has also been set up on the A6 while we’re working in the area.

"We’re working as fast as we can to turn the taps back on and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

In a tweet, Stockport Council warned locals to be prepared for delays on the stretch of road between the junctions with Kennerley Road and Heaviley Grove.

Temporary traffic management has been set up to help easy delays.
