Almost 300 homes in one area of Newport were left without power this weekend after a fire broke out and damaged their electricity supply.
Residents in Pill were left without electricity at around 11pm on Saturday after a substation caught on fire in Alma Street, Western Power has confirmed.
"Unfortunately, as result 294 customers went off supply," a spokesperson for Western Power said.
The houses were without power for almost 15 hours until engineers resolved the issue shortly before 2pm on Sunday.
The loss of power is believed to be due to damage caused by a fire in its Alma Street substation.
"Refuse material which had been left adjacent to the substation by unknown persons was set on fire," the spokesperson for Western Power said.

"The fire quickly spread into the substation compound and caused a substantial amount of damage and destruction to our equipment."
They added: "Our engineers worked through the night and the following morning to carry out emergency replacement of the damaged equipment.
"All customers went back on supply at 1.50pm on Sunday afternoon.
"Electricity substations are essential to enable us to keep the lights on.
