Hundreds of homes in West End of Newcastle left without power

A power cut has hit over 200 Newcastle homes.

The majority of homes affected by the outage are in Fenham according to Northern Power Grid's website.

Around 230 homes have been hit in total, according to the firm.

The vast majority are in the Silverhill and Silver Lonnen areas, near the Denton Pub on Westgate Road.

A handful - fewer than 10 - are in properties just off Buddle Road.

The outage was first reported shortly after 9am this morning according to the firm's website, which states staff are "working hard" to restore power as quickly as possible.

"We've had to switch off the power for safety purposes whilst our engineers work on the cables and equipment that serves your area," states the site.

"We appreciate your patience and understanding."
