Hundreds of homes hit by power cut in Bury

About 370 homes in the Holcombe Brook area of Bury are without power as engineers battle to get it restored.

Electricity North West says one outage is affecting a total of 291 properties, which will take until between 6.15pm and 7.15pm to repair.

A further 80 homes have been given estimated restoration time of about 11pm.

Meanwhile, 160 customers in Moss Side area of Manchester have also suffered a power failure. Electricity North West says it will also be about 11pm before they are reconnected.

The company has also issued warnings to householders planning DIY jobs in the garden during the Bank Holiday Weekend.

On Twitter, it said: "An extremely important message if you're planning some DIY or gardening overhead electricity cables aren't always obvious to spot so always remember to 'look out, look up'.

Other power cuts affecting homes in Morecambe and Cumbria have also been reported.

No details as to what the faults are have yet been made available.
