Hundreds of homes could be on their way to Killingworth if housing scheme is given go-ahead

Hundreds of homes could be built in Killingworth if plans for a sprawling housing scheme are given the go-ahead by civic centre chiefs.

Northumberland Estates has asked North Tyneside Council bosses for permission to build 560 houses on agricultural land off Killingworth Lane.

The application is made up of two parts, is asking for full planning permission to build 436 houses, highways improvements and infrastructure and a new access from the A1056 and B1317.

The developer have also submitted a seperate application to the authority to build a 1.1km link road between Killingworth Way and the A1065.

The second part of the applications aims to get outline planning permission to build 124 homes on High Farm.

In a statement to the council, agent Avison Young points out that the land is part of a wider site earmarked for 2,000 houses, a primary and secondary school, a supermarket and business park in the local authority's local plan.

The report also says the site has good public transport links to the rest of the borough and Newcastle as well as being close to Cobalt Business Park.

It added: "The site is therefore in a sustainable and accessible location in proximity to a number of key centres with a wide range of shops, services and facilities and is accessible via a number of public transport options reducing reliance on the private car.

"The proposals will therefore have a functional relationship with and sustainable connections to settlements across North Tyneside and neighbouring authorities."
