Hundreds of homes could be built close to Everton's proposed new ground

Hundreds of new homes could be built within striking distance of Everton's planned new stadium at Bramley Moore Dock.

Proposals recently submitted to Liverpool Council show that 210 homes could be built on Lightbody Street, just across the dock road from the proposed site of the new stadium.

Everton have submitted plans for their new stadium at Bramley Moore Dock but they have not yet gone before councillors to get permission for the development.

Liverpool Mutual Homes, now known as Torus, bought the site in 2018 and now plans to tear down the existing buildings and build 200 apartments and ten townhouses on the site.

According to documents submitted to the council, the new development would link on to the nearby canal and reconfigure the public space in the area, creating a new public square called Lightbody Square.

The documents say: "The scheme creates a new accessible route from the canal tow-path to Great Howard Street, with additional new interconnecting public realm between the railway arches and new building forming ‘Lightbody Square’.

"The square creates a new public link between the tow-path and Lightbody Street, improving the permeability of the site.

"The railway arches which front onto this will be refurbished to accommodate commercial use, such as workplaces for creative businesses, which will have the opportunity to spill out into the public realm."

The documents also say the buildings will "take cues from the imposing warehouse architecture" of the surrounding docks.

Liverpool Council will decide on the application in the coming months.
