Hundreds of flats and student beds could be built in Bristol city centre

Hundreds of apartments and student beds could be built in Old Market.

Developers Summix Capital want to demolish the buildings located at 1-3 Unity Street and Kingsown House and replace them with a mixed-use development.

This would include around 100 co-living units aimed at young professionals and around 200 student accommodation units.

As well as accommodation, the scheme would also include around 550 sq metres of co-working space and 116 sq metres of workshop space.

The development would be built over three blocks at the corner of Unity Street and Midland Road.

Block A, which fronts onto Jacob Street, has been designed as a series of townhouses.

A public consultation on the scheme finished earlier this month and now the developers will be looking through the feedback before submitting a planning application in the upcoming months.

In the consultation documents Summix Capital said: “The Unity Street site is in a highly sustainable location, close to local shops, services and public transport routes, including Temple Meads train station.”

The developers also shared information on co-living developments.

It said: “They operate in highly desirable, city centre locations which allows the residents to benefit from convenient access to places of employment, and public transport as well as shops, services and other leisure amenities.

“Residents of the co-living accommodation will have access to a private studio bedroom, and will share generous communal areas such as lounges, kitchens, laundry facilities and outdoor amenity space.

6 steps to a planning process application

“Tenancies within a co-living development are flexible, ranging from a minimum term of three months through to longer term tenancies.”

All costs - including on-site security personnel, utility bills and council tax - are included within a fixed monthly rent.
