Hundreds of fans miss Wales vs England kick-off due to Principality Stadium queues

Scores of fans missed the kick-off of Wales vs England at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium due to lengthy queues to get into the ground on Saturday.

Enhanced security checks at the stadium have been in place for several campaigns now, with Wales' Six Nations fixture against England earlier this year being the first time visiting England fans would have encountered them since they were brought in.

Every fan attending a game is now searched after the new measures were introduced in November, 2017.

The Welsh Rugby Union strongly advises fans who are heading to a match to leave plenty of time to get into the city and into the stadium, with supporters told to head in at least an hour before kick-off.

But scores of fans were still queuing on Cardiff's Park Street to get through security checks and through the turnstiles of gate five, appearing to not have heeded the WRU advice ahead of the 2.15pm kick-off.

The sell-out game is the second of Wales’ Rugby World Cup warm-ups, coming after their visit to Twickenham last weekend.
