'Hundreds' of demonstrators expected to join protests in Nottingham this week

Hundreds of people are expected to attend a series of protests taking place in Nottingham this week.

A traffic alert was issued by Nottingham City Centre as some delays are expected as a result of the demonstrations happening today, May 19, and over the weekend.

Details of the reasons behind the protests have not been confirmed but the council said action is set to take place at Old Market Square from 4pm today.

Protestors will also gather at the Forest Recreation Ground from 12noon on Saturday, May 22, before marching to Old Market Square, which could cause severe delays to public transport.

The following day a further gathering will take place from 12noon at Old Market Square.

A city council spokesperson said attendance at the protests is unclear but it is thought 'several hundred' people could join them.

No more details of the protests has been issued, however, Nottinghamshire Live reported this week that a second pro-Palestinian protest will take place on Saturday, May 22.

Last weekend, (Saturday, May 15), around 500 protesters gathered in Nottingham city centre in a pro-Palestinian demonstration and a Kill The Bill protest.
