Hundreds of children told to self-isolate over half term after pupil at Olchfa Comprehensive tests positive for coronavirus

More than 200 pupils are self-isolating after a positive coronavirus case was confirmed at a school in Swansea.

It means 268 pupils in year 10 at Olchfa Comprehensive School in Sketty are currently self-isolating.

Swansea Council said the pupils will return to school after the half-term break.

A spokesman said: "There has been a positive test in year 10 which means 268 pupils in that year group are isolating in line with national guidance.

"These pupils will return to school after the half-term break."

Data from last week showed the total number of new coronavirus cases among staff and pupils in schools in the six days to May 19 was 32, compared to 49 the previous week. Primary schools reported 20 cases while 12 more were reported in secondary schools.

Half of Wales’ 22 local education authority areas reported no Covid cases in schools in the six days to May 19.

As well as Swansea, this week it was confirmed that more than 200 pupils are self-isolating after a number of coronavirus cases were recorded at a primary school in Porthcawl.

Twenty six people from West Park Primary School tested positive for Covid-19 and 267 pupils have been told to isolate.
