Hundreds of cases recorded in Bristol as one person dies with Covid

Another person who contracted coronavirus has died in Bristol.

The fatality was confirmed on a death certificate within the last week - and brings Bristol's overall grim toll to 625.

Data also shows there are eight coronavirus patients being cared for in the city's hospital - this compares to four last week.

Every area in the four local authorities that make up the West of England has reported a rise in their daily Covid figures today (June 24).

Across all four authorities, 341 new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed by UK government figures.

Bristol recorded the biggest jump, with 170 cases.

Our city's Covid rate per 100,000 people now stands at 165.3 -this compares to the national average of 98.4 and the South West's 85.6.

South Gloucestershire confirmed the second-highest rise today of 89. This district's rate is 109.2.

Meanwhile, Bath and North East Somerset saw a rise of 53, and North Somerset reported 29 new cases.

There were no new deaths within 28 days of a positive test result recorded in the Bristol region, however the city of Bristol has recorded one new death with coronavirus on the death certificate.

Across England there have been 16 deaths recorded within 28 days of a positive test result, bringing the total to 112,614 deaths.

Meanwhile, the R rate for England is 1.2 to 1.4 according to the latest figures.
