Hundreds of cars line streets as Longford Town fans celebrate Premier Division promotion

Hundreds of cars lined the streets of Longford Town last night to celebrate the club's promotion to the Premier Division.

The club secured Premier Division status yesterday afternoon following a promotion-relegation playoff against Dublin side Shelbourne FC in Richmond Park.

Longford are back in the top tier for the first time since 2016 despite finishing fourth in this year's First Division.

Rob Manley's second-half goal making up for an earlier missed penalty in the crucial behind-closed-doors playoff.

And after the game as the club asked Town fans to celebrate responsibly during the Covid-19 lockdown, jubilant fans took to their cars to celebrate.

And the club has said that hundreds lined the streets of the Midlands town, waving flags and sounding their horns .

The club said: "Hundreds of cars lined the main street of Longford Town tonight to celebrate our promotion.

"Thanks to each and every one of you for your support and for celebrating in a responsible and safe way!"

In one video, dozens of cars can be seen parading around the town as fans also waved from the footpath.
