Hundreds of cars clamped at Forest Park and Ride tram stop in Nottingham

More than 200 cars were clamped at the Forest Park and Ride over a four-month period of enforcement action. The Nottingham tram stop, situated at Forest Recreation Ground, saw a crackdown on "inconsiderate" parking from October.

NET Tram continues to monitor the site for offences such as parking outside of bays, wrongly parking in disabled bays, blocking pedestrian walkways and parking without using the tram. New documents submitted to Nottingham City Council show 225 vehicles were clamped between October 17 and January 31.

NET, which uses a contractor for the enforcements, was unable to say how much money had been paid in fines. However, with the release fee costing £140, it is estimated at least £31,500 would have been forked out by offenders in total.

During the period there were 886 parking violations and 527 warning notices issued. NET said there had been a marked reduction in the number of cars "abusing" the site for parking.

Tram user Tom Locke said he had noticed a change. "I've seen bad parking in the past, particularly when it's really busy in the summer," said the 30-year-old joiner. "I've not recently but then again I haven't used the tram in a while."

In documents, the tram company also said patrols had contributed to the wider security of the network. It said joyriders were reported to police after being spotted causing damage to a parked vehicle at the park and ride on January 30.
