Hundreds of Bon Jovi fans stranded in city centre queueing for buses to Anfield gig

Hundreds of people have been left standing in queues around Liverpool city centre ahead of Bon Jovi's gig at Anfield.

Due to be the first time that the American rock band  have performed in  Liverpool  in 33 years - and the first time ever in front of the world famous  Kop at Anfield - thousands of fans are expected to travel to the stadium tonight.

For those travelling in from the city centre , a dedicated shuttle bus service was laid on to ferry concert goers to Anfield .

The 917 service began running from Lime Street Station /St George's Plateau at around 4pm.

But due to massive demand, queues quickly began building around the station and the city centre.

With the buses expected to leave the station every few minutes, it seems that many will unfortunately miss the beginning of the concert that started at 6.30pm.

At the time that the event started, queues were running from the top of Lime Street Station, past the front of the station, across the road and down towards St John's Gardens.

The ECHO's Cheryl Mullin, who was in the queue, said: "The line is snaking back to St John's Gardens, as people queued for buses leaving outside St George's Hall.

"We've waited about 20 minutes so far but the queues stretch back to the station plaza.

"Lots of people have begun calling Ubers."

The doors at Anfield opened at 5pm ahead of the gig tonight.

Bon Jovi was expected on stage around 8pm after support act Manic Street Preachers, performed before him.

The event is expected to finish at around 10.30pm.
