Hundreds of balloons fill Southport sky in tribute to tragic schoolgirl

Hundreds of balloons were released into the sky from Southport Beach.

Friends and family of Semina Halliwell, who died on Saturday after several days in hospital, gathered in her memory on Tuesday evening.

Twelve-year-old Semina was a pupil at Stanley High school. The school says support is being offered to children.

White and silver balloons were released at the beach at 6pm, while tributes, flowers and poems were left on the sea wall.

Semina's passing has shaken the community, with an outpouring of tributes from near and far.

Her mum, Rachel, told the ECHO : "She was so beautiful, and so funny. She loved singing and dancing.

"She had been asked by model agencies to work for them but she wasn't confident enough. She didn't see how beautiful she was.

"She was loving and caring, and loved her brothers Rafy and Jorge so much, and she was so loved by friends and family, far and wide.

"I am heartbroken beyond words. There is a void in my heart that can never be filled.

"I cannot believe I will never see that beautiful, gorgeous girl again till I leave this earth to heaven. Her pain is over now."
