Hundreds of Anti-vax protesters descend on Glasgow’s George Square claiming Covid isn't real

Hundreds of anti-vaccination protestors have gathered in Glasgow city-centre calling for an end to lockdown.

Groups of people marched from the south side of the city to join the protest in Glasgow's George Square.

Many people were seen carrying signs displaying anti-vaccine messages.

Crowds were not socially distanced in line with current guidelines and many protesters were spotted without face masks.

Groups chanted "freedom" while others held signs that read "no mandatory vaccines" and the "vaccine is not placebo safety tested".

The group then reportedly marched to Glasgow Green and back.

Protest group Scotland Against Lockdown tweeted: "Great turnout today at the Anti Lockdown gathering at Glasgow’s George Square.

"Then marched to Glasgow Green and back again. While StandUp Edinburgh & Glasgow Groups marched from Queens Park to join in. A beautiful day in so many ways."

Police officers mounted on horses were spotted at the scene.

It is understood that there were no arrests.

The protest comes as the latest figures from the Scottish Government revealed that to date, 2,764,607 people have received their first vaccination with 993,180 having a second jab.

A spokesperson Police Scotland said: "Officers are in attendance as part of routine patrols, and have engaged with a number of people and given appropriate advice."
