Hundreds line streets outside Ibrox Stadium to say final goodbye to Rangers legend Walter Smith

Hundreds of football fans gathered at Ibrox stadium to bid a final farewell to Walter Smith.

The cortege of the former Rangers manager passed the club's home ground ahead of a private family ceremony on Wednesday afternoon.

Fans lined the streets outside the stadium holding scarves and flags to pay tribute to the football icon, who also managed the national team.

Applause rang out as those lining the streets mourned the loss of Smith in emotional and touching scenes.

Tributes had previously been left by mourners shocked by the announcement of Walter's death following a short illness on October 26.

As well as the private family funeral, a public memorial will be held later this month.

A club statement previously said: "The passing of Walter Smith has touched every member of the Rangers family, and the club can today update that plans are being put in place for a public memorial service.

"The memorial will take place on Friday 19th November at Glasgow Cathedral. Please note, this will be an invite-only event. The service will be available for free via RangersTV.

"The club would like to put on record its thanks to our supporters, supporters of other clubs and the wider community for their kind words and support at this difficult time."
