Hundreds gather to enjoy Hillhouse fun day as event proves to be a real success

Hundreds of people enjoyed the long-awaited Hillhouse Community Council Fun Day on Saturday.

With the sun shining brightly, the event was a huge success all round with revellers enjoying a host of completely free fun, food and entertainment.

For the first time in its history, the event - cancelled last year due the pandemic - featured a live concert at night with local band Indie FM on stage, followed by DJ Reece McNab.

Other attractions on the day, which took place at Hillhouse Community Centre, included fairground rides, electric go karts, climbing walls and much more.

HCC chairman, Tom Skilling, told Lanarkshire Live: "After COVID, everyone needed something to cheer us all up.

"Hillhouse is a deprived area and some people have been hit harder than most.

"We worked alongside our community groups and this was a combined effort from everybody here, working together to make sure it was much bigger than ever before.

“It was a great team effort."

Organisers also paid a special thanks to the local supermarkets who donated food and drink for the fun day, as well as generous funding made by the National Lottery Fund, Arnold Clark Community Fund and South Lanarkshire Council, which allowed the much anticipated event to go ahead.

Tom added: “It allowed us to go above and beyond what we’ve ever done before and make everything free to enjoy."
