Hundreds gather for Save Our Beach rally at Stockton

Pictures: Jonathan Carroll

HUNDREDS of people gathered on Stockton beach on Sunday morning to show their support for the Save Our Beach campaign.

Locals and supporters of the peninsula's beach rallied to express their frustration and demand government action to the rapidly worsening erosion crisis.

The crowd descended on the southern end of the beach near the breakwall and attempted to form a large S.O.S on the sand.

However, a lack of available beach and the sheer number of people in attendance made forming the letters virtually impossible and forced organisers to settle for a massive group photo instead.

Organiser Lucas Gresham said the amount of people who came together for the rally was quite astounding given it had been organised less than 48 hours beforehand by word of mouth and a few posts on social media.

But the Stockon local and well known Hunter real estate agent said it was hardly a surprise because the lack of practical action to address the ongoing erosion woes had left locals "bubbling" with frustration.

Mr Gresham and Newcastle MP Tim Crakanthorp addressed the rally and said they would not stop the fight for action. Both promised similar events would be held in the near future.
