Hundreds gather at Paisley cenotaph to pay silent respects on Remembrance Sunday

Paisley fell silent this morning as hundreds of people gathered in tribute to the war dead on Remembrance Sunday.

More than 200 people attended the poignant service in the town, and wreaths were laid at the Paisley cenotaph as part of the tribute to those who lost their lives during the two World Wars.

Remembrance events also took place at war memorials at other towns and villages across Renfrewshire, including Kilbarchan, Renfrew, Lochwinnoch, Howwood and Johnstone.

It was the first time in two years large public ceremonies could be held – with many of last year’s events being cancelled or scaled back due to the pandemic.

Members of the civilian and military community paid their respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Renfrewshire Council also commissioned an updated version of the ‘Renfrewshire Reflects’ film, released after coronavirus scuppered Remembrance events in 2020, for those who cannot attend in person.

The video, featuring representatives from communities across Renfrewshire and focusing on the importance of Remembrance, will premiere on the council’s social media channels to tie in with the national two-minute silence on Sunday and will be available on the council website and Youtube channel immediately after.
