Hundreds flock to Sefton Park as Liverpool basks in the sunshine

Hundreds of people flocked to Sefton Park today as the region basked in the glorious sunshine.

People headed to south Liverpool park in their droves, with temperatures hitting double figures.

Some people were seen having picnics and barbecues on the grass, while others played football and went for a walk around the lake.

On Lark Lane, long lines of customers queued up to buy ice creams and takeaways to enjoy in the warm weather.

Under the current government guidelines people are allowed to exercise once per day with those in their support bubble or with one person from outside their household.

When going out to exercise the rules state that people should stay within their local area and follow social distancing guidelines.

Boris Johnson laid out his roapmap for lifting lockdown restrictions earlier this week, with the first changes set to come into force on March 8.

From this date people will be allowed to meet with one other person outside for recreation such as sitting on a bench and having a coffee.

Under the next stage of the roadmap, which will be introduced no earlier than March 29, the Rule of Six is expected to return for outdoor gatherings.

This means up to six people - or two households of more than six people - will be allowed to meet up in outdoor spaces like parks and also private gardens.

During last night's press conference at Downing Street Professor Jonathan Van-Tam said "do not wreck this now, it is too early to relax", and added that the rules still apply even if you have had the coronavirus vaccine.

He said: "Look, this is going all going very well, but there are some worrying signs that people are relaxing, taking their foot off their brake at the wrong time."

According to the Met Office tomorrow morning is set to see some sunshine before the clouds give way to a bright afternoon.

Early predictions for the coming week suggest the weather will be cloudy but dry, and slightly colder than this weekend.
