Hundreds flock to Glasgow streets as Orange Walk parades return to city

Hundreds of people flocked to the streets of Glasgow as Orange Walk parades returned to the city this weekend.

The Orange Walk returned after Covid restrictions banning marches were eased.

Granted permission to hold processions by Glasgow City Council, the parades were planned by Orange lodges on the first Saturday in July.

Five marches took place across the city - the first Saturday loyalist’s parades in almost two years.

The biggest of the marches, by Royal Orange Institution Govan District 42, started and ended at Brand Street.

It saw around 500 people take to the streets for the parade.

Photos from the day in Govan showed bands and members join the march with flags and wreaths.

Cops wearing PPE were also in attendance to marshal those taking part.

Marches are also understood to have taken place in the Springburn, Drumchapel, Parkhead and Shawlands areas of the city.

Glasgow city currently remains under level two coronavirus restrictions.

Police Scotland have been contacted for comment.
