Hundreds brave freezing Ayrshire waters on Boxing Day for cancer charity

Hundreds braved the cold on Boxing Day to raise cash for those in Ayrshire affected by cancer.

Revellers headed to Ayr beach and battled the freezing sea temperatures to coin it in for Ayrshire Cancer Support.

The Boxing Day Dip was a first for the charity which supports children, young people and adults fighting cancer.

The fundraiser was inspired by Malcolm Sargent House in Prestwick whose fundraisers used to take the waters in aid to the respite centre.

But this year Ayrshire Cancer Support resurrected the dip which saw an incredible 500 take to the sea.

It is hoped the funds raised will support services for children and young people in Ayrshire.

And revellers put on quite a show taking to the sea in festive attire, classic swimwear and costumes that really made waves.

Laura Brown, Head of Income and Communications for Ayrshire Cancer Support said: "What a wonderful way to spend Boxing Day morning and such a fun way to raise vital funds for children, young people and adults affected by cancer in Ayrshire.

“We are hoping to raise £20,000 as it’s only through fundraisers like these, that we can continue to deliver our free services to the thousands of people who rely on us every year. Thank you to everyone who came along and we hope to see them all again next year.”
