Hundred mourners pay tribute to 'lovely kid' who died on railway lines

The heartbroken family of James Myers has thanked all those who paid tribute to him after a vigil was held tonight.

James, 12, was electrocuted on train tracks, close to Bedford Road in Bootle, on Tuesday evening.

Around a hundred people attended the vigil, while dozens contributed to a fundraiser to help the grieving family.

His uncle, Lee Myers, told the ECHO: "The family are grateful for all the support we've received.

"There was a massive turn-out for the vigil. There must have been around 100 people there."

A GoFundMe page was launched by Jackie Moreland, the auntie of the schoolboy.

On the page, she wrote: "I have decided to make a GoFundMe for my sister and family. We got the devastating news that my 12 year old nephew lost his life on the railway track.

"I am raising money to help with the financial difficulties at this sad time.

"We really appreciate all the support and thoughts that we have been receiving, we are overwhelmed with it all."

In the 12 hours since it was set up, it has already exceeded its £500 target and stood at £630 on Friday night.

It came as around 100 people attended a vigil and released balloons close to the spot where James met his untimely death.

James was described by neighbours as "a lovely kid" who "always had a smile on his face."

The Everton fan was with a friend, also 12, when  he got onto the train line  where he suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
