Humza Yousaf jokes plans explored to keep Ange at Celtic as First Minister will never hide Parkhead love affair

Humza Yousaf has joked he has looked at ways Holyrood can stop Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou making a potential move to Tottenham.

The First Minister has been vocal in his support for Celtic during his political career and recently took in the Scottish Cup semi-final win over Rangers - and the SNP leader is clearly keen to keep the man behind the big result at Hampden that put the club on the brink of a Treble. Postecoglou has led the club to the Viaplay Cup and Scottish Premiership trophy this term - and a win over Inverness Caley Thistle at Hampden would complete the clean sweep of silverware.

Those accolades have caught the attention of Spurs' chief Daniel Levy who has reportedly made the Australian the "preferred candidate" to take over from Antonio Conte - with an approach floated after the final whistle sounds at the national stadium on Saturday. It's clearly not news that Mr Yousaf wanted to hear.

Speaking about his allegiance to Celtic and being open about supporting the club as a high-profile politician, he told Clyde 1 Superscoreboard: "It does come with its challenges because I think people assume that everything you do is through the lens of being a Celtic fan. I'm not going to pretend I'm anything other than that, because what's the point?

"I remember when I first got into politics people said 'Why don't you just pretend you're a Partick Thistle fan?' I thought 'there's plenty of pictures of me in a Celtic top, folk know me, what is the point of pretending?'

He also admitted to being a massive fan of Postecoglou - joking he would look to block a switch to North London. He added: "I just asked my entire team to see if there's anything within my ministerial powers to stop Ange leaving Celtic, if of course the rumours are true.

"Of course there's nothing I can do. I would be gutted, I think he's been a real revelation. Not just as a manger and his tactics but also the players he's bought, I just don't think they would've come to the Scottish Premiership if he hadn't brought them."
