Humza Yousaf delivers Rangers and Celtic 'strong message' praise amid derby call-off fears

Justice secretary Humza Yousaf has praised both sides of the Old Firm for a 'strong message' ahead of derby day next Sunday.

The scenes of mass lockdown rule breaches after Rangers were crowned Premiership champions last weekend saw the Scottish Government cast doubt over their clash at Celtic.

Yousaf, sport minister Mairi Gougeon, Police Scotland and Glasgow City Council joined the two clubs in crucial showdown talks on Friday night.

Both bosses from Glasgow's divide Steven Gerrard and John Kennedy have sent messages urging supporters to stay home.

Ibrox skipper James Tavernier also sent a message warning fans of the risks of leaving home during the pandemic.

Yousaf took to Twitter to praise the united front shown by the Glasgow giants.

He posted: "Very pleased to see strong messages from Rangers and Celtic urging fans to obey rules & stay at home for upcoming fixture on 21st."

He also shared the video from Taverner and interim Celtic boss Kennedy.

Yousaf had said that the clash between the Glasgow sides on March 21 could be axed if fans planned to “square off” against each other at either stadium or in the city centre.
