Humming noise heard across the south last night as one of world's loudest planes flies directly over Ireland

A Soviet-built military cargo plane flew across the south of Ireland last night, bringing a very loud humming noise with it.

The Ukranian Atonov-an12 is a four-engined turboprop transport aircraft used by the Russian military for transporting cargo.

According to FlightRadar24 it was coming from Oxford Airport in London and came into Ireland at Wexford before heading over Waterford, Tipperary, Cork and out to the Atlantic over Kerry.

The noisy planes make their way all around the world and often lead to mass confusion as to what the strange noise is they are making.

This is because despite flying at about 25,000 feet, a loud humming noise can still be heard coming from the engines of the plane.

Information on where exactly the plane was heading and what it was carrying is not readily available - however it is highly likely it was headed straight to the east coast of the US, Cork Beo reports.

Hearing noise from these huge planes is not a new phenomenon and it has been keeping people awake at night for many years.

Back in 2015  the whole of Manchester was on alert after hearing this strange noise zipping across their skies.

Earlier this year, in March to be exact, locals in Kildare were reporting the same noise as the plane went over the Leinster area when en route to Shannon Airport.

Did you hear any noise between 11pm and midnight last night? It could well have been this cargo plane.
