'Humiliated' Asda shopper 'screamed at by manager' for bringing kitten into store

An Asda shopper claims she was "humiliated" after bringing her pet kitten into a store, only for a "rude manager" to run over "shouting" that she wasn't allowed the animal in the shop.

Danyele Lo Bianco, 47, claims she visited the superstore in St Helens, Merseyside on September 6 with her daughter Nicolle, 17, to do their weekly shop.

She claimed she'd carried their kitten Lolly in a "pet bag" inside several shops, including the St Helens store, with no issues previously, adding that if she sees a sign on the door saying "no pets allowed" she knows not to enter the store.

Danyele alleged that an Asda staff member, who she believes to be a manager, approached her "screaming, being rude and very loud in the middle of the supermarket in front of everyone" because of the kitten.

She said he had "never been so embarrassed".

Danyele was shocked and initially thought it was because there were thieves in the store, but was then told it was because they were not allowed the kitten in the supermarket.

She claims she tried to explain there was no sign on the door stating pets aren't allowed, the Liverpool ECHO reported.

An Asda spokesperson said that their policy is that no animals are permitted to come into their stores besides assistance animals, such as guide and assistance dogs.

They also said they are yet to receive a complaint directly from the customer on the matter.

Nicolle also claims they were told by the staff member that there was no sign as it is something security usually deals with, however said they were not stopped at the door.

Danyele told the ECHO: "My daughter panicked because we have never had this type of treatment before in my life.

"We asked her why she was had this kind of rude behaviour with us and she told us it's because I was not allowed to shop with my kitten.

"So I tried to explain to her that there is no sign on the front mentioning no pets allowed."

Danyele claims she had a shopping trolley "full" of items which was taken by the staff member and they were escorted to security, who told them to leave the shop.

Danyele added: "I thought there was no problem. But in the end I dropped everything and me and my daughter left the supermarket feeling humiliated.

"My daughter was crying and my cat was too nervous and started trying to get out of her purse because of the whole situation."

Danyele and Nicolle claim they have previously visited an Asda store in Widnes with their kitten and had no trouble.

The mum said she believes the staff member could have approached the situation differently.

She said: "I don't think this is the right way to treat a customer. She could come talk to us and ask us out or take the cat to our car.

"But no, she was just ignorant, rude and screaming out loud.. Then everyone around started looking at us.

"I'm so disappointed in her attitude and my daughter suffers from anxiety and her cat wants to soothe her."

An Asda spokesperson said they have not received a direct complaint from Danyele on the matter and encouraged her to come forward.
