Hume Hwy open but roads to coast, mountains badly affected

Major roads around the Australian Capital Territory continue to be badly affected by the bushfires that have swept southern New South Wales in the past two weeks.

While firefighters have managed to keep the Hume Highway open despite encroaching fire near Bowral and Mittagong, travel to and along the South Coast continues to be badly disrupted, and a network of roads through Kosciuszko National Park and around Tumut have been closed.

The Princes Highway is open between Nowra and Batemans Bay, but is closed between Mogo and Moruya. It is open between Moruya and Bega, but is closed between Eden and the Victorian border.

Kings Highway remains closed between Braidwood and Batemans Bay, and Transport for NSW has advised that nearby Araluen Road has also been closed due to unsafe conditons, and is not a suitable detour for Kings Highway.

Cooma Road, linking Cooma and Braidwood, has also been closed in both directions.

In the Snowy Mountains, Thredbo is cut off with Alpine Way closed between Jindabyne and Khancoban, as is Snowy Moutains Highway between Tumut Plains Road and Adaminaby.

Roads to the west of Tumut area also closed, including the Snowy Mountains Highway and Grahamstown Road, but of which link Adelong with the Hume Highway.
