
Hurricane Humberto has strengthened to a Category 2 storm, with maximum sustained winds of 100 mph as it makes its way toward Bermuda, per the latest National Hurricane Center advisory.
The latest: The NHC noted that Humberto could strengthen over the next 36 hours and "become a major hurricane" by late Tuesday night or early Wednesday.
What's next:
- Tropical storm conditions are anticipated over Bermuda by midday Wednesday, and hurricane conditions are possible between Wednesday night and Thursday morning. The NHC said the center of Humberto "is expected to pass just to the north of Bermuda Wednesday night."
- Humberto is likely to bring 2–4 inches of rain, with isolated maximum amounts of 6 inches.
- "Swells will continue to affect the northwestern Bahamas and the southeastern coast of the United States from east-central Florida to North Carolina during the next couple of days," per the NHC.
