Humana Festival 2014 lineup announced

Nov. 12--Six full-length plays and a bill of three ten-minute plays will premiere in the 39th Humana Festival of New American Plays at the Actors Theatre of Louisville, the theater said on Tuesday.

"The Roommate" by Jen Silverman will be directed by Mike Donahue in the Bingham Theatre. Silverman's aptly-titled comedy is about a newly-divorced woman who moves in with an off-beat roommate.

Colman Domingo's "Dot" will be directed by Meredith McDonough in the Pamela Brown Auditorium. An inner-city family comes together at Christmas in Domingo's dark comedy.

"I Will Be Gone," a musing on death by Erin Courtney, is about a teenage girl who goes to live with her Aunt in California when her mother dies. Kip Fagan will direct the drama in the Bingham Theatre.

Artistic director Les Waters will stage a new play by Charles Mee, "The Glory of The World," in the Pamela Brown Auditorium. Mee's characteristically odd setting is a party celebrating the deceased Trappist monk, Thomas Merton.

Philadelphia's Pig Iron Theatre Company and Gregory S. Moss' "I Promised Myself to Live Faster" will be directed by Dan Rothenberg in the Victor Jory Theatre. The collaboration is a campy science-fiction epic.

The final new full-length play is "The High Lonesome Sound" by Jeff Augustin, Diana Grisanti, Cory Hinkle and Charise Castro Smith. Performed by the 2014-15 acting apprentice company in the Bingham Theatre, the play, directed by Pirronne Yousefzadeh, is an exploration of bluegrass music.

The three ten-minute plays will be announced in January.

The Humana Festival of New American Plays runs March 4 through April 12, 2015 at the Actors Theatre of Louisville, 316 W. Main St. in Louisville, KY.
