Human remains found in woodland amid huge police search

Human remains have been found in woodland near Bristol during a huge police search yesterday (Sunday, November 14).

Officers were called to Stockwood Open Space just before 10am and a cordon remains in place today.

The identity of the deceased person has not yet been confirmed and an Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said this could "take some time".

The full statement from the force said: "Police were called at around 9.50am yesterday (Sunday 14 November) to woodland near Whittock Square, Stockwood following the discovery of human remains.

"A cordon is in place while a forensic investigation is carried out at the scene.

"The death is currently being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances.

"Work to establish the identity of the deceased is likely to take some time."

Forensic teams and a dogs unit arrived at the scene today and could be seen in Whittock Square beside the woodland.

Speaking last night, a local woman described seeing several police cars, a forensic unit, and what looked like a body bag being removed from the woodland.
