A skeleton has been discovered at an Essex scrapyard. It is thought to that of an elderly man
Detectives are treating the death as unexplained, and are searching missing persons records, while forensics experts examine the human remains.
Essex Police said a member of the public found the bones at the scrapyard in St Osyth near Clacton-on-Sea.
The site, which has been sealed off, is due to be razed to create a holiday resort for up to 24 caravans.
The bones were found by a worker in a team clearing piles of metal ready for the redevelopment.
A police spokesman said: “We believe the bones may be human and a further examination will be carried out by anthropologist."
Thousands of holidaymakers go to St Osyth beach each summer and many stay in static caravan parks.
