Human remains discovered inside jar at empty home

Human remains were found inside a jar at an empty home in Toxteth, Liverpool, police have confirmed.

A spokeswoman for Merseyside Police said: "At around 12.10pm yesterday (Monday 9 August) we received a report of suspicious circumstances an unoccupied address on Wordsworth Street, Toxteth.

"Officers attended and located a jar containing preserved human remains at the property.

"Police remain on Wordsworth Street today (Tuesday 10 August), while extensive enquiries are carried out to establish the provenance and age of the remains."

A large police presence could be seen at the property last night, Liverpool Echo reports.

Officers placed a cordon around one home on the road, which is located close to Toxteth Park Cemetery.

One person living on the street of semi-detached houses said police were 'all over the road'.

Officers could be seen within the cordon outside the front of the property and also in the garden.
