Workers carrying out a dig on one of the busiest streets in the city found human remains on their site.
The bones were found on a building site on Dominick Street on June 4, and were transported to the nearby National Museum of Ireland.
A Garda spokeswoman confirmed the discovery, telling Dublin Live: "Gardaí were called to a site on 4 June, 2019 when workers carrying out a dig on Dominic Street discovered human bones.
"It is believed that these bones are human and of a historical nature and have been transported to the national museum and the site was reopened."
A source told Dublin Live: "The bones are believed to have been from the period 1890-1910.
"The bodies were found in the basement of the house and there is some confusion as to how they got there."
