Human remains thought to be around 1,500 years old have been found on a building site.
Authorities were called following the discovery at a building site in Newtownmountkennedy, Co Wicklow in recent days.
The remains were examined and found not to be recent, but of a historical nature.
The site has now been handed over to the National Monuments Service and the county council.
Replying to a query from the Irish Mirror, a Garda spokeswoman said: "On the 26 March 2021, following an examination of the site by an Archaeologist and Forensic Anthropologist and Human Remains Specialist, it has been determined that the remains are circa 1,500 years old.
"The County Coroner has been notified and no further Garda action is required at this time.
"The site has been handed over to the National Monuments Service and Wicklow County Council."
