‘Human error’ blamed for data breach involving 143 alleged Al Fayed victims

  • Recipients' contact details were visible to others on the distribution list, leading the Met to issue a sincere apology and notify the Information Commissioner's Office.

  • More than 400 claims of sexual misconduct spanning from 1977 to 2014 have been made against the late Harrods owner.
  • The data breach follows complaints submitted to the police watchdog over the Met's historical handling of allegations made against Al Fayed.
