Human bones washed onto Fife street after church graveyard floods in heavy rain

Human bones have been washed onto a street in Fife after a graveyard flooded over the weekend.

The outer wall at the Largo and Newburn Parish Church in Upper Largo collapsed due to the extent of the water in the cemetery.

As a result, a number of historic graves were "disturbed and exposed" on Saturday after huge downpours in the Fife area.

Fife Council decided to move the remains into the church after being called out to the recover the bones that spilled onto the nearby road.

Liz Murphy, head of bereavement services at Fife Council, said: "Unfortunately, some historic graves were disturbed and exposed.

"In order to preserve the dignity of the deceased, where safe, the remains have been moved into the church.

"Any exposed ancient lairs are covered until it is safe to restore or rebury them."
